Pet insurance helps to protect you and your pet. The cost of veterinary bills can become high, and most pet owners could benefit from having insurance to help offset the veterinary costs associated with unexpected illness or injury. Further, pet insurance can reimburse the owner in the case of an animals death, theft, or loss. Another advantage is the protection from liability in the case of third party lawsuits caused by the pet, whether for damage of property or injury to persons. It is important to carefully read policies and understand your responsibilities under the policy so as to keep your coverage in effect. Most policies require you to fully vaccinate your pet, for example, and properly restrain him at all times. Reading the policy can also alert you to possible advantages of continued coverage. For example, while pets over the age of eight years are not eligible for coverage under most insurers, purchasing insurance before that point and keeping it continuously in effect may make your pet eligible for coverage no matter his age. Always ask any questions before deciding, and if necessary, get advice from a knowledgeable person before selecting any insurance policy.

I am a living example that every owner should have pet insurance. I am going through a second dog requiring surgery and it is going to cost me about $3,500 when everything is said and done - the last one was about $4,500. I am over my head in debt and cant pay my bills - all because of the animals I love.

Thank you for your comment. I am sorry to hear about the financial difficulties involved with keeping your beloved pets healthy. I have been in the same position myself and can sympathize. I hope your dogs do well and give you years of love and enjoyment in repayment for your kindness. They are fortunate to have you for an owner.
